2016 Marchese Antinori Tenuta Montensia Contessa Maggi Franciacorta Riserva Italy
2016 Marchese Antinori Tenuta Montensia Contessa Maggi Franciacorta Riserva Italy
GW says: Marchese Antinori, one of Italy’s oldest family-owned wineries since 1385, brought their centuries-old Tuscan mastery north to Franciacorta. The Contessa Maggi vintage is produced on its Tenuta Montenisa estate from selected Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. Contessa Maggi represents one of the highest quality expressions of the Franciacorta appellation, and honors Franciacorta’s noble traditions, Antinori’s heritage and Lombardy’s finest sparkling terroir.
Grapes: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir
Appearance: Brilliant straw yellow with a delicate, persistent stream of fine bubbles.
Aroma: The nose opens with aromas of golden apple, citrus peel and hints of white flowers. Subtle notes of toasted almonds and fresh pastry add elegant complexity.
Palate: Precise yet generous, with a creamy mousse and refined texture. Flavours of ripe orchard fruit, candied lemon and hazelnut unfold gracefully. A backbone of lively acidity keeps it vibrant and poised. The finish is long and mineral-driven, leaving whispers of brioche and citrus zest.
