These prices are offered due to the highly competitive positioning of the wines and represent exceptional value within the range. They are available strictly on a case basis—either as 6 bottles of sparkling wine or 12 bottles of still wine — from Sandridge Barton. However, flexibility remains for larger purchases, and orders can still be placed as a mixed selection of 12 bottles or more.
The
Sandridge Barton (formerly Sharpham) Blanc de Noirs 2020 is a highly decorated English sparkling wine, having famously secured a "Master" medal at the 2023 Global Sparkling Masters—the only English wine to do so that year. Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, this vintage represents a pinnacle of Devon winemaking, combining the fruit-driven power of red grapes with sophisticated traditional-method precision.
Tasting Note
Appearance Open the bottle and let the bubbles explode You’re met with a striking raspberry-gold hue in the glass. A beautiful coppery shimmer and a persistent, creamy mousse that really shows the fabulous winemaking that went into this bottle.
Aroma On the nose, this is all about the red fruit forest floor. Expect delicate aromas of rhubarb, raspberry, and gooseberry leaping out. There are deeper layers too—think baked apple and a touch of orchard fruit, all wrapped up in an inviting, rich bouquet. Think of it as a fruit crumble without the crumble !
Palate Dry, precise, and dangerously delicious! The palate is "alive" with tart red berry flavours. Because it spent 18 months on the lees in the bottle (after 10 months in French oak!), you get those yeasty notes of puff pastry and baked bread. It’s got a long, fruit-driven finish lifted by a ripe acidity that keeps you coming back for another sip.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The Grape Wizard loves a wine that can handle "bigger" flavours. This Blanc de Noirs is a serious gastronomic companion:
Seafood with a Twist: Try it with red snapper sashimi, smoked trout, or even a classic shrimp cocktail.
Indulgent Mains: Its structure works wonders with roast duck, guinea fowl, or a rich wild mushroom risotto.
The "Wizard" Choice: For something fun, pair it with Lime and Sea Salt chocolate—the citrus in the chocolate makes the lime and gooseberry notes in the wine absolutely sing.
GW Verdict:This is a "stop you in your tracks" kind of wine. It’s got all the elegance of a top-tier Champagne but with that distinct Devon identity. The oak influence is so subtle it just adds texture rather than "woodiness," letting that 100% Pinot Noir fruit really control the show. Total class.
Great service, I ordered a bit late just before Xmas . But the wine was delivered promptly and was notified on the tracking of the order. Perfect thank you
I first tried no2 on a date at a fancy restaurant. Its was fantastic,so I thought I would buy a few bottles for home as wine and food always seem to taste better when you are either out or on holiday. Had a little gathering for my wife’s birthday and got asked on numerous occasions what it was they were drinking. Nobody could believe it was English and not French. Enough said.
