RADIO COTEAU

In 2012 the Vineyard aquired a 42 acre 17 Hectares (17 Twickenham rugby pitches ) site just north of San Fransisco. They have established rows of Syrah and Zinfandel – expanding recently to include Pinot Noir Chardonnay and Riesling

The estate vineyard houses all their grapes and can be seen as an aerial photograph on their website. They believe daily involvement in the cultivation of the soil. Self sustaining and they are organic and Biodynamic certified

Only 10 mile from the ocean – you can almost smell it ! The vineyard is on a sandy loam Goldridge soil (an ancient seabed- great for drainage). Vine roots dig deep allowing them to harness water reserves late into the season. The cool, coastal climate provides for later ripening and allows enhanced flavours to come through. A perfect opportunity some might say! As a result non-interventionist winegrowing practices allow the winery to preserve, capture, reflect, and respect the property’s unique sense of place.

They plant native plants and fruit trees and also planted vegetable gardens to provide food for our staff and a select group of local establishments. They raise goats, chickens and honeybees -  adding balance to the environment by grazing, feeding on invasive species, and controlling pests, while returning valuable fertilizer to the vineyard and garden soils.

Owl boxes and raptor perches are also evident as this helps control the gopher population, with bat and bluebird boxes added to reduce insect outbreaks. Native bee boxes help pollinate the many fruit trees, flowering perennials, and annual plants around the estate. All helping the environment and helping the winery.

These fabulous wines are available from The Grape Wizard and the Sommelier please have a look at the Chardonnay’s Pinot Noir and Syrah’s on our site

AROMA & PALATE :This Syrah is a beauty. Eric Sussman’s (owner) wines always stand out. Always sophisticated and savoury. This Syrah is certainly no exception: bright, wild berry fruit and notes of grilled meat, violet and tar. Always elegant tannins not too much but showing something grown up. Also showing is an intense spice of wood bark, green peppercorn, black tea— growing toward rich, dark fruit as you leave it to open up. Think of forest floor fruits. Bramble berry, loganberries a...

Situated on the tope of a ridge above Occidental town (home to another amazing vineyard) This Pinot Noir is organic and biodynamic. The vineyards goal is to make sure they can look after the grapes from ‘shoot to fruit’ and beyond. 2017 saw the Belay vineyard increase by 20% of the grapes – this help structure and balance of the wines but also added a grown-up spicy note to the wine. Dangerously delicious.   Varietals 100% Pinot Noir Appearance Dark Garnet Aroma Bright red fruits – red cherry...
